Wananchi Group which is the leading internet services provider in Kenya announced their partnership with the leading world provider of cloud computing services, Akamai. This has been under the advisory of Telecommunications Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK) which operates the Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP).

The partnership will achieve increased productivity for Wananchi Group consumers as they will be able to access critical applications locally without having to connect to Europe hence making information access faster. “We must say this is an indispensable partnership for Zuku and we are honored to host Akamai content since this will translate to a great online experience for our clients. They will access content faster, more securely and reliably” said Wananchi Group CEO, Richard Alden.

This partnership comes shortly after Wananchi Group announced their plans to continue the deployment of Fiber to the home networks in more cities in East Africa and extend business services networks. This will in effect translate to a broader product offering across a wider variety of geographies and market segments.

With the growing number of web-enabled devices used in today’s business environment, for example by use of smartphones and tablets, access to your data is even easier. Cloud computing offers your business many benefits. It allows you to set up what is essentially a virtual office to give you the flexibility of connecting to your business time.

Similarly, Akamai provides cloud services for helping enterprises provide secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere. Akamai delivers 15 to 30 per cent of the world’s total web traffic reaching more than 15 Terabits per second every day.

“Akamai will come in handy for those Zuku fiber users who often connect to work remotely, shop online, download music or watch a web video since they will experience even higher internet speeds,” Mr. Alden added during the announcement in Nairobi.

The company helps enterprises around the world optimize the web experience with SaaS cloud computing solutions. SaaS, commonly known as ‘Software as a Service’ is used by businesses for a variety of functions ranging from database to accounting and human resource platforms. “The Kenya Internet Exchange Point is proud to be associated with Wananchi Group which is hosting the Akamai servers. Networks peering at the KIXP will now be able to cross connect to the Akamai Intelligent

Platform providing them with extensive reach, unmatched reliability, security, visibility and expertise. KIXP will create a good operating environment for Wananchi and other operators peering at the exchange.” Said TESPOK CEO Fiona Asonga.
