Safaricom has launched a vigorous subscriber registration exercise countrywide. The exercise that  will kick off tomorrow (14th February) targets customers who are yet to register their voice or data SIM cards.

Subscribers need only to dial *232# to check whether their lines are registered or not. The service is free of charge.

Commenting on the subscriber registration drive, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore said:

“I would like to especially appeal to our voice and data customers who have PrePay modems, iPhones, iPads and Tablets to register their lines during this campaign to avoid future disconnection. We have now made it easier for our customers to register by having additional agents stationed within strategic locations countrywide. This is in addition to our Safaricom Shops, Dealer and M-PESA outlets who are all authorised to register customers.”

To register their  SIM cards, subscribers are required to give their full names, identity document number, physical / postal address, gender, date of birth and alternative contacts .Customers are also required to present their their original identity cards or other official personal identification documentation including Passports and Military IDs.

M-PESA customers will only be required to provide  additional details such as  Physical address, and Alternative contact.

The exercise will also help Safaricom and the general public deal with the rising incidences of mobile phone perpetrated crimes, including kidnappings, fraud and hate messages.
