This is a Smart Way of Using Tech During the Festives

I mett Mike Chege at Nyamavilla in Kayole. I was roaming the Eastlands joints and found myself at this place which has a Car Wash, Children’s playground, Beer Joint and also all kinds of meals for beer drinkers.

What really made me curious about the whole establishment is how some young enterprising Kenyans are using the mobile and digital technology to make money. Mike Chege happens to be one of them. He has this very very modest camera (panasonic model) which he hangs on his neck and use it to make a living.

He takes photos of friends, families or just individuals out and about and in 5 minutes prints out the photos for them using a very mobile printer. He only charges Ksh 100 ($1.2) per photo. He tells me that there are days when he can make over Ksh 1000 ($12) per day. That puts food on the table for him and keeps him going.

Mike is not alone. Many joints in Eastlands suburbs of Nairobi have these kinds of entrepreneurs. This is ingenious I think.
