Safaricom To Start Testing 4G Before Fully Deploying 3G?

Safaricom CEO, Michael Joseph announced at the Connected Government Summit in Diani that the company is to start deploying 4G network countrywide. The announcement is somewhat suprising considering that Safaricom has not fully deployed 3G with even many areas in Mombassa and even Nairobi still on EDGE.

Speaking during the opening of the Connected Government Summit in Mombasa, the CEO said his firm will this year invest Sh23 billion to expand and upgrade its data infrastructure as it gears up to offer reliable services to all Kenyans.

Despite having huge capacity on both TEAMS and SEACOM fibre optic cables, the company is still relying on satellite connection for redundancy.

I just dont understand how the government is taking these people round while Safaricom is also playing with anti-competetive tendencies like trying to set prices for 3G licences while the market dynamics for when Safaricom bought its licence and now is completely different.

I think that we need to start chanting Haki Yetu for this government to listen to us.
