A dormitory at St Joseph’s Girls High School, Kitale came under fire at mid-day on Wednesday destroying property whose value is yet to be determined.

This was after another fire razed down a different dormitory on Tuesday night that left a number of students hospitalized.

A total of 10 students were reported to have been admitted at the Kitale Referal Hospital after the night incident while 31 others were briefly admitted after inhaling heavy smoke.

The 31 were later discharged.

A doctor monitoring the students revealed that the admitted students are responding well to the medication and are likely to be discharged anytime as there were no fatal injuries.

Speaking to Citizen TV, the school principal Rosebela Orwaru affirmed that the situation at the school is currently under control and all the girls are safe.

Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Jimmy Njoka mentioned that investigations are already going on to identify the cause of fires.

“Preliminary investigation results rules out electricity fault as the cause of the fires. Meaning that their is a good chance that this was a clear act of arson,” Mr Njoka noted.

He added that the DCI officials in the county will help carry out a thorough investigation on the fires.
